LinkedIn headline and About section formulas that get you found
Your headline is searchable text, not a slogan. Use these formulas to rank in recruiter searches and turn profile views into messages.
The headline is a search field
Recruiters search by title and skill keywords, and the headline is one of the highest-weighted fields. 'Open to new challenges | Passionate about growth' ranks for nothing. A headline that works: 'Senior Data Analyst | SQL · Python · Power BI | Turning retail data into pricing decisions'.
The headline formula
Combine three parts, separated by pipes:
- Target job title (the one employers search for, not internal jargon)
- Three to five core skills from real job ads
- One differentiator: industry, scale, or a standout result
Write the About section in three paragraphs
Keep it under 1,500 characters and in first person:
- Paragraph 1: what you do and who you do it for
- Paragraph 2: two or three quantified career highlights
- Paragraph 3: what you are looking for next and how to reach you
Align it with your CV before you apply
Screeners open your profile minutes after your application. Titles, dates and headline promise must match your CV exactly — and an up-to-date profile optimizer pass closes the gaps in minutes.
Put this into practice
Score your CV against a real job description and fix the gaps in minutes.
